Event Details

In a program titled “There’s No Place Like Home,” Los Altos History Museum shares what cities are doing to become age-friendly for happy, sustainable intergenerational communities. The free program is slated for Thursday, March 10 from 5:30-7pm.

Two presenters bring their expertise to the topic. David J. Klein, PhD, is founder and CEO of Modern Empathy, an organization that focuses on aging in place. He contributes to CAFE, Center for Age-Friendly Excellence, and serves on the Los Altos Environmental Commission. Mandy Brown is a Senior Management Analyst in the City Manager’s Office for the Town of Hillsborough, and holds masters degrees in both Public Affairs and Urban and Regional Planning.

Through urban planning, Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), and Life Plan Communities like The Terraces in Los Altos, seniors are able to age in place. These minor changes in a city or town allow older people to live in a home they’re familiar with, in a community they love.

“There’s No Place Like Home” is one in a series of educational public programs in support of the Museum’s current exhibition, “Every Wrinkle Tells a Story: Intertwining Lives,” on display through May 8th. The exhibition features black-and-white portraits of seniors in the community, and videotaped interviews, the result of artist Maud Daujean’s year-long project to get to know the people who make up the Los Altos community.

The program will be held both at the Museum and on Zoom. Registration is required at losaltoshistory.org/nplHome.
