Come see a couple of young talents at the Poetry Jam feat. Sarah Kay & Phil Kaye of Project VOICE.
SOME BACKGROUND:
Sarah Kay is a spoken word poet from NY. She began performing when she was 14 and has since performed across the world, including at the UN and in 2006 on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam where she performed Hands (go watch it on YouTube).
Since 2004, she co-directs Project V.O.I.C.E. with Phil Kaye ‘to encourage teenagers toward creative self-expression through Spoken Word workshops’.
“Spoken word poetry is the art of lifting poetry off the page and onto the stage — performance meets written word,” Sarah Kay said, “It is a form of storytelling that predates technology. Spoken word poets have been around since Homer and William Shakespeare. In the US it’s been given a shiny new hip-hop cover.”
