Event Details

Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.

Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.

Postal Box Furniture Making & Pan Pizza Party | Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

Learn to make chairs, tables, guitar stands, frames and whatever you want from USPS boxes. A designer will guide you in creating structurally sound objects that you can take home or leave.

Please note: This event takes place at 1011 Market Street, not on Mission Street as was previously listed.

A few designs will already be proto-typed and tested before you arrive. Allow room for creativity in modular editing as you continue on through the process. Bring cool duct tape for some unique postal box designs.

If there is a surplus of furniture, they will go out into the streets of SoMa and give it to the homeless. The hosts encourage you to combine building with mindfulness, speaking intentions, feelings, and/or secrets into each box as you make them. Then construct and color.

A quarter way through, there will be a demonstration of how to make easy and tasty 5 min Pan Pizzas. Then you will carry on as you eat, share, laugh and build for the future.

Disclaimer: Please double check event information with the event organizer as events can be canceled, details can change after they are added to our calendar, and errors do occur.
