Presidio Free Programs: Talks, Music & Performances | SF
San Francisco’s tradition of diverse cultural expression started at the Presidio, and continues today with events that enlighten, engage, and entertain, taking place at the Presidio Officers’ Club.
Enjoy topical discussions, live music, dance, and interactive family activities, all free to the public and sponsored by the Presidio Trust, in partnership with cultural institutions from across the Bay Area.
The award-winning Friction Quartet exists to expand the string quartet repertoire and the audience for adventurous contemporary music. It is on a smooth ascent to becoming one of the Bay Area’s most radical new music ensembles.
Free, but an RSVP is recommended.
Since forming in 2011, Friction has given 28 world premiere performances and commissioned 30 works for string quartet. They recently opened for Kronos Quartet in their “Under 30” series and collaborated with Opera Philadelphia in a performance of selections from Missy Mazzoli’s new opera.
Friction was selected as one of eleven artists featured in the San Francisco Bay Guardian’s 2014 On the Rise issue. They received the 2012 Berkeley Piano Club Award and recently juxtaposed Beethoven’s “Serioso” quartet with recompositions of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Skrillex as part of their residency with the Central Texas Orchestral Society.
