Presidio Free Programs: Talks, Music & Performances | SF
San Francisco’s tradition of diverse cultural expression started at the Presidio, and continues today with events that enlighten, engage, and entertain, taking place at the Presidio Officers’ Club.
Enjoy topical discussions, live music, dance, and interactive family activities, all free to the public and sponsored by the Presidio Trust, in partnership with cultural institutions from across the Bay Area.
To celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year, Corey Chan, director of Kei Lun Martial Arts and Lenora Lee, artistic director of Lenora Lee Dance will talk about their contemporary approaches to interpreting Chinese history and culture.
Chan will discuss the Chinese traditions of dragon dance, lion dance, and martial arts, and their relationship to historic and contemporary practices. He will also illustrate how he restored the Marysville Dragon, an historic antique dragon from the Chinese community of Marysville, California, which is currently at the New-York Historical Society’s exhibition “Chinese American: Exclusion/Inclusion.
Lee will show excerpts from her recent films and large-scale performance pieces that integrate American modern dance, Chinese dragon and lion dance, martial arts, original music, text and video. These pieces connect various styles of movement and music to culture, history and human rights issues.
