In the intimate atmosphere of a house concert, experience jazz, contemporary, and classical music, and enjoy opportunities to converse with performers and each other.Offered in partnership with the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music.

Friction Quartet whose performances have been called “terribly beautiful” (SFCV), “stunningly passionate” (Calgary Herald) and “chillingly effective” (San Francisco Examiner), exists to expand the string quartet repertoire and audience for adventurous contemporary music. Since forming in 2011, Friction has given 63 world premieres and commissioned 30 works. They opened for Kronos Quartet, in Kronos’s “Under 30” series, and were one of eleven artists featured in the SF Bay Guardian’s 2014 On the Rise issue. They received the 2012 Berkeley Piano Club Award, were quarter finalists in the 2015 Fischoff Competition, and placed second at the 2015 Frances Walton Competition.
