Event Details

The Gay Prom has been an annual Hayward event since 1995–one of the longest-running events of its kind in the country.  There was much controversy in the town when it started, but it has prevailed and become a popular event attracting more than 400 teens (20 and under) a year.

Through interviews and scenes from the prom, the 30-minute filmNow We Can Dance: The Story of the Hayward Gay Prom, highlights the importance of having such an event for LGBTQ youth.
