Event Details

Public Art Tour launches this spring as an initiative by the Greater Rincon Hill Community Benefit District (GRHCBD) and artist/curator Jenny Sharaf, with additional sponsorship by B&O Play and Bang and Olufsen to highlight the museum-caliber public art and public spaces in the Greater Rincon Hill District and surrounding area.

Holding the belief that art has the power to bring a sense of community to this dynamic downtown San Francisco area, Public Art Tour will have both online and IRL, or in-real-life, components to engage public audiences. There will also be a series of commissioned projects by leading contemporary artists to interpret and collaborate with the highlighted art.

Artwork profiled on the tour will include pieces by Frank Stella, Ugo Rondinone, Claes Oldenburg, Chris Johanson, Barry McGee, Roy Lichtenstein, Paul Kos, Anish Kapoor, Larry Bell, and many other renowned artists.

The Public Art Tour launch event on March 30th is a celebration of the release of their web presence and will feature four special “in the wild” Public Art Tours led by some of their favorite artists.

Located at Paul Kos’s ‘Big Bertha’ public sculpture at 199 Fremont Street, the evening program from 5-8 pm will also showcase special appearances by San Francisco artists, plus a roster of radical performances and activations with:

  • Alternative Public Art Walking Tour by Chris Johanson and Kal Spelletich (audio and video)
  • Gallery essay and editorial featuring Paul Kos, including a live tour
  • IRL Jenny Odell Walking Tour and Virtual Online Experience
  • Officially Unofficial Public Art Tour and Music Playlist with Scott Vermeire
  • Digital Tour with Laura Hyunjhee Kim
  • Robotics and mechanics demonstrations by artist and inventor Kal Spelletich
  • Curated playlists by Public Art Tour Artists
  • Local craft beer by Fort Point Beer
  • Special menu items from Town Hall and the Patio

Live Public Art Tour Schedule:

  • Scott Vermeire – 6 pm
  • Jennery Odell – 6:30 pm
  • Aaron Harbour – 7 pm
  • Kal Spelletich – 7:30 pm
