The “Quadrantids” is 2026’s first major meteor shower.

Quadrantids

  • Active: Dec. 28, 2025 – Jan. 12, 2026
  • Peak: Night of Jan 3-4, 2026
  • Best Viewing: Before dawn Jan. 4 (northeastern sky)
  • Notes: Bright moonlight near peak will wash out many meteors this year.

Typically, this meteor show can produce 50-100 meteors per hour in a dark sky; the peak time to watch is on January 4, 2026, with its best displays before dawn.

How best to view meteor showers?

  • Get away from city lights
  • Give yourself at least 15-30 minutes to let your eyes adjust to the dark
  • Meteor watching is a waiting game
