Event Details

Enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire and Bend it Like Beckham? Then you will truly love Bicycle Bride.

This witty independent film examines the cultural clash between an independent young Muslim women in San Francisco who rebels against her traditional family’s plans for an arranged marriage.

There will be beer, wine and popcorn served along with the free screening (and a bike-themed art show). They ask for a $5-10 donation. Question and Answer with the filmmaker following the film both evenings.

Filmmaker Dr Hassan Zee, who has 4 sisters, has seen both sides of the story. As a doctor in Pakistan, Zee spent time in a hospital burn unit, helping women, who because of low dowries or inability to bear children, were tragically burned. In “Bicycle Bride,” he shows us the changing face of Muslim women, using the bicycle as a metaphor.

Exhibit Your Bike-Themed Art: This is an open call for any and all bike-themed art to be added to the art show March 23-March 26th in the Workspace Gallery. Please e-mail laniasher@sbcglobal.net if you have anything that fits the bill.
