Reel Love Fest takes place this Valentine’s Day weekend, February 10-14, 2021. Focusing on the matters of the heart, audiences can expect Reel Love Fest to offer more than romance as it aims to touch on all aspects of love. Twelve feature film premieres, three shorts blocks, live events, a collection of podcasts endearingly dubbed “lovecasts.”
Opening the fest is festival darling DINNER IN AMERICA, a punk-rock misfit love story that deserves the largest audience possible. The centerpiece film is Tim Sutton’s stylish anarchist crime/romance FUNNY FACE and the closing night selection is Emma Seligman’s hilarious SHIVA BABY, a claustrophobically choreographed comedy about a young woman enduring a terrorizing mix of lovers and extended family at a Jewish funeral reception. More standouts include a duo of international Oscar submissions, MY LITTLE SISTER from Switzerland starring acclaimed actress Nina Hoss and Japan’s TRUE MOTHERS from renowned auteur director Naomi Kawase. In total, just under 70% of directors in Reel Love Fest’s feature slate are women and 50% of the features represent directorial debuts.
