Rethink Recycling Day with Kids Crafts, Raffle Prizes and More (San Carlos)

RethinkWaste invites you to join us at our NO-COST Rethink Recycling Day event taking place Saturday, October 21st from 10AM to 2PM!

This no-cost event will include:

• Shredding (9 AM-12 PM): On-site secure document shredding for RethinkWaste service area* residents only. MAXIMUM 3 standard size banker boxes (10″x 12″x 15″) per household. Must provide proof of residency in RethinkWaste service area. Shred event lasts until the time listed or until the truck is full, whichever comes first.
• Clothes Mending Workshop (10 AM- 12 PM): Learn basic clothing repair techniques in this hands-on visible mending workshop. Sewing supplies will be provided, but we encourage you to bring your own if you have tools or fabrics you’d like to use. Come with an item of clothing (such as jeans or woven fabrics – no knits please!) that has a hole or tear and be ready to actively participate! Face masks required.
• Kids Crafts (10 AM): Create cardboard characters by reusing common household items! Students can choose between six spooky creatures and fun animals to craft using toilet paper rolls. All necessary materials will be provided. This activity is best suited for children K-5. Accompanying adult welcome.
• Shoreway Facility Tours (12 PM & 1 PM): Get a unique, behind-the-scenes look at where your compost, recycling, and landfill items go! Limited spots available.
• Raffle Prizes: Event participants are eligible to win an Earth-friendly raffle prize. You must be present to win. Limit one prize per household.
• Poster Contest Winner Recognition: Help us celebrate this year’s Poster Contest winners. Our Poster Contest is held every year to inspire students to creatively express themselves while thinking about waste. This year’s poster theme is “Super Sorters!” More information can be found at: https://www.RethinkWaste.org/postercontest

Registration is required for tours and general admission to the event. The event will be held rain or shine.

*RethinkWaste service area: Belmont, Burlingame, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Hillsborough, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, parts of unincorporated San Mateo County, and West Bay Sanitary District
