Return of the Cypher (ROTC) is free live Hip-Hop show every Sunday at the Boom Boom Room that features an ever-changing lineup of artists and improvised sessions (know as “cyphers”) where beatboxers, emcees, and musicians collaborate in a spontaneous combustion of soulful skill.

Kensho Kuma | ON HIATUS: “Return of the Cypher” Hip-Hop & Beatbox Jam | Boom Boom RoomSee Kensho Kuma, a Japanese American MC from Berkeley, CA, perform.
Kuma was born in Yokohama, Japan, and was raised in the Bay Area; he has been actively recording and performing since ’97 and credits his ability and education to the local independent Bay Area Hip Hop scene.
Kensho KumaKuma is a bilingual lyricist, able to flow in English and in Japanese; he has explored Asia thoroughly on multiple ventures, and has lived, worked, and performed throughout mainland China, and motherland Japan; he can rightfully claim Tokyo, Chengdu, and Shanghai, to be his second homes.
