Arizona Opera mounted the world premiere of Riders of the Purple Sage, a new opera based on Zane Grey’s best-selling novel. The artistry behind live theatre and the thrill of opening night are captured in the documentary film, Riders of the Purple Sage:The Making of a Western Opera.
Virtual Benefit
Unfortunately, the pandemic has devastated the creative community represented in our film. Many performing artists, musicians, and stagehands have been out of work for a year and will continue to be unemployed for the foreseeable future. We are unable to physically gather as an audience but this is a time to come together in solidarity. While theaters are dark, we want to utilize this film to remind ourselves of the role the performing arts play in elevating the human spirit.
We want to support the arts community with a virtual film premiere to benefit people who make a living onstage and backstage. Proceeds will be administered by The Actors Fund, a human services organization that provides financial relief and services to everyone in the performing arts and entertainment. The Actors Funds serves all professionals in film, theater, television, music, opera, radio and dance through programs that address the arts community’s unique and essential needs.
