Observing the Unknown: Rohini Devasher and Kim Beil in Conversation at Minnesota Street Project Foundation

Working with video, painting, printmaking, drawing, installation, and other mediums, Rohini Devasher (b. 1978, New Delhi) maps the complexities of ecology, cosmic space, and atmospheric science viewed through the twin lenses of wonder and horror. Her projects illuminate the weird, seductive, and entangled worlds that emerge from deep research and scientific exploration. Devasher holds a BFA in painting from New Delhi’s College of Art and an MFA in printmaking from the Winchester School of Art at the University of Southampton in the UK. She is co-represented by Gallery Wendi Norris, San Francisco, and Project 88 in Mumbai, India.

Kim Beil teaches art history at Stanford University and her writing appears in the New York Times, the Atlantic, the Believer and Cabinet, as well as many art magazines. Her book Anonymous Objects: Inscrutable Photographs and the Unknown will be released this winter by SBPH and MACK books.

7 Heron Street San Francisco, CA 94103

Artists Reception for Resonance in Light. This is a unique opportunity to experience the exhibition and speak with the artists about their work.

Heron Arts proudly presents Resonance in Light, an immersive and meditative exploration of the interplay between sound and light. This third edition of our annual exhibition revolves around the Gamelatron, a kinetic sculpture crafted by Aaron Taylor Kuffner which is a unique fusion of ancient Indonesian Gamelan tradition with modern technology. Constructed from bronze and iron instruments, the Gamelatron is transformed into a spectral musical automaton through the integration of mechanical mallets and a sophisticated computing system which translates digital compositions into a mesmerizing array of electrical pulsations.
