San Francisco Bike Party (First Fridays)

San Francisco Bike Party  (not to be confused with Critical Mass) is a monthly celebration of biking for riders of different ages, types, and skill levels to enjoy. Every month is a different theme and you’re encouraged to dress up.

San Francisco Bike Party is held on the first Friday at 8:00 pm every month (meet at 7:30p, roll at 8p). The starting location and route also changes every month. Check SF Bike Party’s Facebook page for updates.

The rides are fun and safe with stops to dance and socialize along the way. You’ll follow planned routes exploring all different parts of the city each month. They encourage people to bring positivity and contribute to good times while being respectful to others.

Who runs it? Created by a co-op, by and for bike enthusiasts, run by volunteers who plan the routes, test ride them, help participants ride in control, avoid traffic disruption, and not get lost. How SFBP rides: – Stay in the right lane – Stop at red lights – Leave no trace – Ride predictably and in control – Roll past conflict – Ride prepared – When in doubt, “bike party!!”

Their March ride honoring Women was cancelled due to rain but the Purple Rain is gonna make up for it. Prince honored, celebrated and elevated women. Who better to help them celebrate their favorite inspiring female and female-identified people than His Purpleness?

They are incorporating some special aspects into this ride to help them honor and support the women in their community:

Much like their toy drives, they’ll be collecting some items and distributing them to a local organization, La Casa de las Madres, a facility that offers support and resources to victims of domestic violence. If you bring one or more of these items to the ride you will receive a raffle ticket to win a Bike Party T-shirt. You may also purchase T-shirts for $20 each. La Casa has specifically requested items.

At their final stop, theyare hosting a celebration for Soma, the Flaming Lotus Girls’ art installation at Pier 14 on the Embarcadero. Sadly, this temporary installation is due to come down on the weekend of June 4 and they want to say goodbye in style. The Flaming Lotus Girls–a female-driven art collective who create a supportive environment for learning, collaboration and leadership–will be riding with them and they are excited to show them some SFBP love.

Take inspiration from the Purple One for your costume or let your inner SHERO shine and dress as your favorite inspiring female figure, whether she be fictional, historical, animated, imaginary, contemporary, or even your own inspiring self. Costumes that are not respectful will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave.
