2016 San Francisco Int’l Dragon Boat Festival
eptember 17-18, 2016 | 10 am to 5 pm
Lake Merritt, Oakland
At the heart of the festival is the race excitement, with almost 100 dragon boat teams comprised of thousands of paddlers. Come watch your favorite local corporations and community groups battle it out on the water.
The Dragon Boat Festival will offer two days of cultural performances and entertainment, including lion dancing, martial arts demonstrations, Hawaiian/Polynesian dancing, Taiko drumming, and much more.
They’ll also have plenty of food and snacks to tide you over until dinner at one of Oakland’s great restaurants. The festival will also have vendors with a variety of athletic clothing, arts and crafts, and other items.
On Saturday at noon, do not miss the opening ceremonies with the traditional blessing of the festival boats ceremony, a traditional Chinese ceremony accompanying dragon boat races all over the world for thousands of years.
Dignitaries from the community will help awaken the dragons and bless the racing in this magical ceremony you won’t soon forget.
