CHSA is pleased to present a panel discussion about the history of Chinese relationships with the Port of San Francisco on the occasion of the Port’s 150th Anniversary.
The featured speaker Hillary Don, author of the recent book Across the Pacific Ocean with Paddle Steamship China, will talk about the Brannan Street Wharf and the steamships leaving and arriving, the construction of the China, and more.
Joining Don on the panel will be CHSA Historian Phil Choy as he explores the tremendous trade between San Francisco and China as exemplified by the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, the immigration of Chinese to the US, and the role of the Port as the nexus for travel and commerce of the day.
