Opening Reception: 5:30-7:30, July 9th, 2015, Exhibition July 1st – July 31st

Sandra Lee Gallery is proud to present ‘Ethereal Visions’: Works by Jason Adkins, David Avery, and Corinne Whitaker. This exhibitions brings together the three recipients of the Honorable Mention prize in 2014’s ‘Real/Surreal’ show. In ‘Ethereal Visions,’ each artist guides viewers past the veil of the familiar, and into lush and sometimes frightening landscapes pulled forth from their imaginations. By juxtaposing their work, audiences are allowed a view into the collision between harsh and jagged digital-scapes, tumultuous apocalyptic events, and dreamlike scenes of the future.

Jason Adkins’ work includes large-scale paintings and drawings that respond in part to excess of modern visual gluttony; a churning cauldron of organic form and vibrant color that threatens to swamp the viewer.

Davide Avery’s art explores the obfuscated meaning behind images, words, and objects. His etching recall both the imaginative woodcuts of Durer and Victorian illustration, but frequently include familiar contemporary details, to an unsettling effect.

Corinne Whitaker, aka the Digital Giraffe, has been a pioneer in the field of digital art, bringing digital imagery into the tangible world through her prints and sculptures. Whitaker’s art is filled with fragmented ephemera, bones and feathers, quills and clouds, which come together to create new beings and digital “terrae incognitae.”
