Event Details

A free, family-friendly one-hour community walk at San Ramon Central Park to raise awareness about soil — part of a 38+ city movement across the US and Canada this spring.

Bring the kids, bring the dog, bring a friend — and walk with us at San Ramon Central Park on Sunday, May 3rd from 8:30 to 10:00 AM.

The Save Soil Walkathon is a free, family-friendly community walk happening in the East Bay as part of a coordinated 38+ city movement across the US and Canada this spring. It’s a relaxed one-hour stroll through one of the East Bay’s most beloved parks — perfect for families, neighbors, and anyone who wants to start their Sunday outdoors.

Why we’re walking: Soil is the quiet foundation of nearly everything we eat, drink, and breathe — and it’s disappearing fast. Over half of the world’s topsoil has been lost in the last 150 years. The UN’s FAO warns that 90% of the world’s soils could be degraded by 2050. One teaspoon of healthy soil holds more living organisms than there are people on Earth.

The Save Soil movement is a global awareness campaign backed by the UN’s FAO, UNEP, UNCCD, WFP, and IUCN. The East Bay event is organized by local parent volunteers — no fundraising, no sales pitch, just a chance to walk together and put soil on the map for your neighbors and your kids.

What to expect:

  • Free, all ages, all welcome
  • One-hour walk through San Ramon Central Park
  • Stroller- and dog-friendly
  • A few simple, hands-on soil displays for kids
