Event Details

Musicians are leaving San Francisco. Meanwhile, parts of the music industry here are booming. Does the S.F. music scene need help? What can be done to keep them here — along with the other pillars of a vibrant scene, such as clubs and studios?

SF Weekly and The Root (a nonprofit dedicated to the music community in the Bay Area) are hosting a free panel discussion at The Chapel music hall to talk about these issues.

Keeping The SF Music Scene Alive
Tuesday, April 1, 2014 | 7 pm
The Chapel, 777 Valencia, SF
Free
, but an RSVP is requested.

Panelists will include:

  • John Vanderslice, musician and owner, Tiny Telephone Studios
  • Jocelyn Kane, executive director, San Francisco Entertainment Commission
  • Guy Carson, former owner, Cafe Du Nord
  • Adam Theis, founder, Jazz Mafia
  • Jeremy Pollock, Legislative Aide, Supervisor John Avalos

Ian S. Port, the music editor at SF Weekly, will be moderating. They’ll bounce issues around among the panelists before opening the conversation up to questions from the audience. There will be plenty of time for discussion and they hope to come out of this with some concrete ideas on what we can all do to make sure San Francisco retains a diverse and active music community.

Read Ian’s recent article about the local scene.
