#SFPublicCanvas: Amazing Multi-Media Vertical Dance Performance | SF

#SFPublicCanvas is a multi-media, public performance collaboration between choreographer Amelia Rudolph and the dancers of Bandaloop, media artist Jonathan Rowe of The Village Impacts, producing partner Illuminate, and the residents of the Tenderloin/Central Market neighborhood.

The collaborators plan to tour #PublicCanvas and take the concept to other cities where they will work with partners to localize it and focus on the unique challenges facing each community.

The project fuses art and technology to create public discourse around the rapidly changing landscape of San Francisco and features special guest performances by Campo Santo, Tassiana Willis, illuminate (the non-profit arts organization behind The Bay Lights) and spoken word artists from Youth Speaks.

About #SFPublicCanvas Against a projection mapped “canvas” of images and words sourced from the community, Bandaloop’s choreography responds to and illuminates the content, provoking a conversation on technology, community and art. Developed in response to the rapid socio-economic changes occurring in San Francisco’s Central Market district, the work is about the human possibilities, cost of urban change brought on by a growing technology industry, and the voice of communities impacted by the change, expressed through the unique, site-immersive, perspective-changing art of vertical dance.
