Jackson Playground | Arkansas Street and 17th Street San Francisco, CA
Submitted by the Event Organizer
San Francisco’s Jackson Playground basketball court is set to receive a temporary art makeover, celebrating the city’s love of basketball as it prepares to host the NBA All-Star Game at Chase Center in February.
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department has partnered with artist Victor Solomon and the Courtside Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring and enhancing basketball courts through community-focused art and design. The mural will feature overlapping circles and a color palette inspired by the San Francisco Bay, creating a vibrant and dynamic visual centerpiece for the court.
The mural will be unveiled at an event on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Jackson Playground, located at 17th and Arkansas streets. The unveiling is open to the public and will include an opportunity to see the artwork up close and celebrate the community’s connection to the sport.
While the art installation is temporary, it marks an exciting moment for Jackson Playground, which is scheduled to undergo a full renovation beginning in 2027. The project continues the Recreation and Park Department’s tradition of using art to enhance public spaces, with previous successes including Hayes Valley Playground, India Basin Shoreline Park, and Golden Gate Park’s Skatin’ Place.
