The 7,000 sqft marketplace is the nation’s first women-led food hall
Thanks to Eater for sharing the news that the nation’s first women-led food hall is opening soon in a former US post office building.
In the heart of San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, the 7,000 sq.-foot La Cocina Municipal Marketplace will offer economic opportunity for working-class, immigrant women, a safe and accessible space for Tenderloin residents, and a transformational and replicable model for anti-gentrification and conscious, community-led development.
Open for To Go Orders Starting April 5
Orders for takeout during lunch hours, 11am – 2:30pm, can be made on the marketplace website starting Monday, April 5th. You can order online and pick up your orders at 332 Golden Gate Ave (btwn Hyde & Larkin).> Order now at lacocinamarketplace.com (11am – 2:30pm, Monday -Friday)
Indoor dining is scheduled to open in summer 2021.
La Cocina is a nonprofit working to solve problems of equity in business ownership for women, immigrants and people of color. They’ll operate the marketplace for four years until a low-income housing development breaks ground.
La Cocina’s food hall at 101 Hyde Street will become the home to seven La Cocina entrepreneurs — all of whom are women of color whose cuisines reflect the neighborhood’s diversity.

- Teranga – Chef Nafy Flatley (Senegalese/Pan-African)
- Estrellita’s Snacks – Chef Estrella Gonzalez (Salvadoran)
- Boug Cali – Chef Tiffany Carter featuring (Creole Bodega)
- Los Cilantros – Chef Dilsa Lugo (Mexican)
- Mi Morena – Chef Guadalupe Moreno (Mexican)
Plus, the marketplace will have a bar, La Paloma, a community space with a lending library, computers, meeting space, and room for temporary pop-ups.
