Event Details

In honor of Buffalo Soldiers Day this Wednesday, July 28, retired Ranger Rik Penn and (current) Ranger Erick Cortes will lead a Buffalo Soldiers walking tour in the Presidio that starts at the Visitor Center around 2 pm.

This African American regiment escorted President Theodore Roosevelt and provided his security at a visit in 1903, acted as the first National Park Rangers of Yosemite and stewarded that park before it was a national park, and fought in the Spanish American and Philippine American Wars, shipped out from the Presidio. Many are buried in the National Cemetery today.
