SF’s Free “National Gumbo Week” Celebration (Oct. 9-12)
National Gumbo Day (October 12, 2024) is the official celebration of Gumbo! Gumbo Social is celebrating with three free events at Gumbo Social, 5176 3rd St., San Francisco PLUS a bonus Gumbo Discount Day.

Day 1 – FREE Gumbo Fireside Chat at African American Arts and Cultural District
October 9, 2024, 5:30-8 PM
At 5:30 PM-6:30 PM,Ā attendĀ our FREE FIRESIDE CHAT about Gumbo, Black food culture, and the AfricanĀ Diaspora with Mr. Gumbo of Gumbo Social, Chef Wanda ofĀ Wanda’s Cooking, and Chef Christina Alexis from theĀ Pleasure PrincipleĀ and moderated by Jeff Hunt of Storied SF.Ā We will be serving some free light refreshments.Ā The talk will take place at theĀ SF African-American Arts and Cultural District.
After the talk until 8 PM, come next door to Gumbo Social forĀ a gumbo menu pairing with wine fromĀ Ayaba WinesĀ and dessertsĀ availableĀ at an additional charge.
Day 2 – FREE Gumbo Cooking Demo by Mr. Gumbo
October 10, 2024, 5-8 PM
Demo session 1 starts at 5 PM, demo session 2 starts at 6:30 PM.Ā
Enjoy a FREE GUMBO COOKING DEMOĀ and presentation by Chef Dontaye Ball aka “Mr. Gumbo”. LearnĀ the secrets behind the perfect roux, spices and seasonings, special ingredients, and techniques to make a darn good bowl of gumbo.
Before or afterĀ the demo, enjoy a gumbo menu pairing with wine fromĀ Ayaba WinesĀ and desserts availableĀ at an additional charge.
Day 3 – FREE Gumbo Tasting Event and Party!
October 11, 2024, 4:30-8 PM
Enjoy a FREE GUMBO TASTING EVENT and PARTY to celebrate National Gumbo Day! Chicken & Sausage, Smoked Turkey, Vegan and twoĀ BRAND NEW GUMBOS!Ā
Vote for your favorite new release and the gumbo with the most votes will become a part of theĀ Gumbo Social Menu.Ā
Featuring special guests, music, and more TBA!
