SF’s Free Spring 2024 Outdoor Movie Nights in Hayes Valley (April 5-26)
Spring is in the air and it’s time again for free films at PROXY! For this year’s SPRING SERIES, we’re mixing things up a bit!
DATE UPDATE – Due to weather, Barbie has been postponed from March 29th to Saturday, April 6th)
Kicking things off with Great Gerwig’s BARBIE and ending with Domi Shi’s TURNING RED – an animated film for young audiences about a giant red panda – we’re bracketing the Series with two crowd-pleasing, fun and vibrant films!
The heart of the festival is a set of three tender, lovely films: Wim Wender’s new film PERFECT DAYS, which centers presence and immersion in the rituals of daily existence; Celine Song’s PAST LIVES, which explores In-Yun: the Korean cultural belief that the connections we have with each other in this life are influenced by relationships we’ve had together in our past lives; and Babak Jalali’s FREMONT: the story of an Afghan refugee’s strange new life in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This Spring’s festival screens films every Friday night starting March 29th and running through April 26th. Please come out with your friends, your family and/or your sweetheart to enjoy a movie (or five!) under the stars in Hayes Valley!
Lovingly curated and produced by ENVELOPE, these FREE evening film screenings at the PROXY Walk-In Theater begin at dusk with ‘doors’ opening at 7:15 PM. Come early to claim a good spot, enjoy a Fort Point Beer (or cider) and non-alcoholic tonics from our very own Juice Shop. All proceeds from beverage sales support outdoor cinema at PROXY!
At PROXY, we celebrate diversity both on the screen, behind the camera, and in the audience. Ensuring access to all in our community is a priority. Our screenings are relaxed gatherings and have English SDH captioning or subtitles available upon request where noted. Please reach out to info@proxysf.net for availability or if you have other specific needs or questions!
If you’ve never been to one of our free outdoor films, please make sure to check out our tips for enjoying watching movies outside at PROXY!

Perfect Days
Directed by Wim Wenders, 2023 [PG]
An absorbing slice-of-life drama led by a remarkable Kôji Yakusho performance as Hirayama, Perfect Days adds a quietly soaring gem to director/co-writer Wim Wenders’ estimable filmography. In the film, Hirayama works as a public toilet cleaner in Tokyo. He repeats his structured, ritualized life every day starting at dawn. He dedicates his free time to his passion for music, which he listens to in his van to and from work, and to his books, which he reads every night before going to sleep.
