SF’s Giant Rare Stinky “Corpse Flower” is Blooming TONIGHT (July 8)
Hold your breath! The Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park has announced that one of their rare super smelly “corpse flowers” is blooming.
Experience the incredibly large, notoriously stinky corpse flower bloom!
Tuesday, July 8, 2025 Bloom Update:
It’s happening! Our lovely Corpse Flower (Amorphophallus titanum), Chanel, is blooming! This rare bloom only lasts for 2 days and smells the strongest on the first night — TONIGHT!
In addition to regular daytime hours we will be opening up the Conservatory for special AFTER HOURS access tonight!

The scent is most potent at night — visit if you dare! Witness Chanel in peak bloom tonight from 5-9pm, last entry at 8:30pm. Purchase your special After Hours tickets online for $25. Limited After Hours tickets will be available onsite.

What’s a corpse flower?
The corpse flower, also known as Titan Arum (Amorphophallus titanum) is the largest unbranched inflorescence (many tiny flowers acting as one) in the plant kingdom. A rare spectacle, the Corpse Flower spends years in dormancy before it blooms, usually once every 7 to 10 years. After its first bloom, it can bloom again every 3 to 5 years.
These fleeting blooms can grow up to 10 feet tall and are famous for smelling like rotting flesh! Corpse flowers are native to Sumatra, Indonesia and are listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
This individual nicknamed ‘Chanel’ last bloomed at the Conservatory of Flowers in summer 2022.
