Event Details

Join this free guided walk and explore seismicity in the Bay Area, particularly the Great Earthquake of 1906, with Ranger Mike.

Earthquakes are sudden and powerful reminders that the planet is dynamic and that change is the only reliable constant. While exploring the Presidio, dive into the variety of ways seismic events cause change in ways that are expected, but also in ways that are surprising.

The focus is the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906 and the impact that disaster had on the Presidio, the Bay Area, the country, and how those impacts can still be seen and felt today.

Participants should be prepared to walk ¾ of a mile on durable surfaces and to be outside for up to two hours. The program will be primarily outdoors regardless of weather conditions.

This program is accessible. It is appropriate for all ages, but best for teens and up. Reservations are encouraged, please call the Presidio Visitor Center at (415) 561-4323 with a name, contact number, and anticipated party size.
