Up to 7,000 people are expected for this is a Parade/March organized by Sikhs of California to remember and pay gratitude to 5th Sikh Guru, Guru Arjun Dev, who was martyred while fighting for equality, and freedom of religion. This March also remembers the martyrs of Operation Bluestar, an attack on Golden Temple (Sacred Sikh Shrine) by Indian Army on June 6, 1984.

The annual Sikh Day Parade will occur on Sunday, June 4, 2023, from New Montgomery down Market Street, then cutting over McAllister with a Remembrance Rally to follow at Civic Center Plaza. Parade formation begins at 11 a.m. The parade begins at 12 noon. The rally at Civic Center Plaza will go from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Streets will be closed and Muni will reroute transit service off Market Street as early at 10:00 a.m.

Street Closures

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., these streets will be closed:

  • 2nd St. between Mission and Market

From 1 a.m. to 10 p.m., these streets will be closed:

  • Grove between Polk and Larkin

During the parade, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., these streets will be closed:

  • Market between 2nd and 7th streets
  • McAllister between Market and Larkin
  • Larkin between McAllister and Fulton

Note: Traffic crossing Market Street will be allowed but will be managed by the Police Department as the parade passes through.
