Join us for a powerful evening of reflection, resistance, and intergenerational dialogue as movement elder Malik Rahim reads from his new book, A Southern Panther. The event will be introduced by author, educator, and longtime organizer James Tracy. The book also features interview excerpts from Malik Ismail (The Vanguard Show), Jessica Gingrich (Many Roads to Here podcast), and Mansa Musa (Rattling the Bars, The Real News Network), A Southern Panther is a vital resource for organizers, educators, and anyone committed to building a better world.
A Southern Panther is a collection of candid interviews chronicling Rahim’s lifelong commitment to social justice—from his days with the New Orleans chapter of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense to his work with Common Ground in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Rahim offers timely insights on organizing across decades, communities, and crises. 2025 marks the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the Black Panther Party and the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
This book reading is more than a literary event—it’s a call to action, and a rare chance to engage directly with one of the most important voices in modern liberation movements.
Presented by Legacy Left, a publishing project interviewing movement elders to pass down lessons for new generations. Legacy Left is an imprint of AK Press.
