Stanford’s chapter of Asha for Education, an international nonprofit providing education to underprivileged children in India, is hosting a Holi event on April 19, 2025, at Sand Hills Fields on Stanford’s campus with slots available from 9:30AM-7PM. This event, which has been running for over twenty years, will raise money for funding the education of dozens of children in India.
With the blossoming of flowers and goodwill and harvest in the community, Holi celebrates the arrival of spring with color, joy, and community. It’s a celebration of good over evil and color over stress. Stanford Asha will have over 5,000 lbs of food-grade color powder to bring the spirit of the festival to life, with two hours of unlimited color included in participants tickets! With food vendors Hyderabad Dum Biryani, Chaat Bhavan, and Koolfi Creamery to purchase from, participants will be available to enjoy food, music from DJ love, and live performances from dance groups from all over San Francisco.
All net proceeds support Asha for Education, a volunteer-run nonprofit with over 40 chapters across the country that funds educational initiatives for underprivileged children in rural areas of India. Stanford’s chapter is supporting numerous nonprofits across India including Shroff’s charity eye hospital in New Delhi, The National Association for the Blind in New Delhi, and Mandras Lions Club in Bengal. Participant’s ticket purchases will go directly to helping these disabled and economically underserved students overcome all the odds to be educated and go onto contribute and serve the community, often changing their family’s narratives.
This effort is conducted through Stanford’s chapter of Asha for Education, which hosts Indian cultural events like Garba and Holi. Akash Shah, Stanford Class of 2026 and co-president of Stanford’s Asha chapter describes this event as the “brightest festival in the Bay.” Stanford Asha hopes to make this event the biggest yet, to donate even more money to help children in India receive necessary treatments for congenital cataracts and allow them to see for the first time and fund home educators who teach in rural villages and connect students to educational resources.
There will be unlimited color, live music, dance performances, and raffle items available from local restaurants like Zareen’s, Khazana, and Local Kitchens as well.
