The banal and sublime collide with entropic abandon, ploughed deep by the mindful hands of Jacob DeRaadt, stalwart craftsman of industrial aesthetics and musique concrète. Constructing antimusical and musical sounds around film by manner of crude tape manipulation, intense cut-up, and harsh noise. Mysteries can draw you in, this is more than a mystery. Rodea’s music is a summoning. Either you make like Odysseus and plug up your ears or abandon yourself to a far better fate among her waves. Sound can captivate, this is more than sound. Narration, song, and clear purposeful action situate her music closer to a myth-action not so much ritual as an actualization, an interaction with time, matter, space and whatever this wet electric stuff binding sleep and wakefulness might be.
