Background:

Once again, students, faculty, staff, their unions, and the community are fighting back to preserve CCSF as a Community College.

Community Colleges emphasize lifelong learning for all San Franciscans: young adults, seniors, immigrants, and working-class people of diverse color, genders, incomes, educational backgrounds, and physical or mental development. They provide language development, arts, music, community engagement, social activism, and job skills.

As Bill Shields, former Chair of Labor & Community Studies at City College, wrote, ” For many years, the neoliberal, corporate agenda has included a fierce attack on public education at all levels… More recently, the school wreckers turned their guns on public higher education, including community colleges…”
