Strange Organs: Immersive Theatre Experience for Connection in Troubled Times (July 4-6)

BERKELEY, CA – artists LindenJL and Puja Tolton are pleased to announce their upcoming immersive theatre production Strange Organs taking place July 4th, 5th, and 6th at 2727 California Street, Berkeley, California 94703.

We live in a world that is swift to categorize and individualize. Neat divisions make it too easy to polarize and spread hate. However, when looking closely at the barriers that define us, you will find them vibrantly messy. Strange Organs embraces complexity and asks: how can we break through our calcified skins, imagine new ways of being, and make home in ambiguity?

This experimental blending of installation and performance art explores the boundary zones of our bodies, revealing how porous those divisions actually are. The brainchild of queer Bay Area artists, Strange Organs uses real-world biological and anthropological research as an inspirational font to expose the webs that connect the smallest cells of our bodies to the grandest sweeps of history.

Filled with characters and narratives developed by the performers themselves and embedded within a labyrinthine set of richly illustrated textiles, Strange Organs promises three days of raw, immediate energy. Participants may encounter protocells emerging on early Earth, become lost in the branching passages of the lungs, or sit with storytellers recounting tales of demon insects who built and destroyed empires.

Equal parts humor and horror, intimate and alien, this gathering will guide audiences into a kaleidoscope of entangled narratives and unstable perimeters. Art Director LindenJL remarks, “we invite audiences to be our collaborators as we explore the borderlands of the body, make kin with the familiar-strangers that reside there, and ultimately come together to create a communal story.”
