Event Details

It’s no secret that creeping authoritarianism is an issue in this country and around the world. Those in power want you to believe that you have no recourse, that the erosion of your freedoms is inevitable in the face of their authority.

The Subversive Cinema film series aims to challenge this notion by highlighting films from around the world that depict the struggle for freedom against those who wish to restrict it.

Our first film in this series spotlights the life and death of the former leader of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, Fred Hampton. A man whose courage and vision has served as an inspiration to generations of people in Chicago and beyond.
