Sunday Assembly: Communty Sing & Meetup | Berkeley

Sunday Assembly is a non-religious congregation that celebrates life. They’ve got the best parts of a church – community, singing, and acts of service – without any of the religious dogma.

They typically meet on the third Sunday of the month to sing, think, listen, laugh, and build community together. They feature speakers from the local science and humanities communities, and they typically offer a way to donate to a local organization.

The Sunday Assembly is a godless congregation started in 2012 by two comedians and performers in England. It is a growing global network of people with the motto to “Live Better. Help Often. Wonder More.”

Guest speakers this month will be from the Consumer Action Committee: Rebecca Corbett, Heidi Spaulding, and Alex Rivin. They will be speaking about issues that affect individuals with disabilities and how they advocate for people in our community.

The members of the CAC regularly advocate for individuals with disabilities and often testify and give public comment at the State Capital and other events. They are associated with Futures Explored Inc., a non-profit organization that was founded more than 50 years ago and provides community and employment training and integration services to adults with developmental disabilities. The CAC members are elected by their peers and are supported when they request assistance from Futures staff. They support one another by encouraging each other to be professional advocates for themselves and others.
