“Sunday Assembly” Silicon Valley Community Gathering | Mountain View

Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More” is the motto for Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley (SASV), an international community movement that celebrates life. The radically inclusive SASV is a secular and service nonprofit that celebrates life, welcomes all people and supports everyone fulfilling their potential.

It aims to help people “live better” with inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people lead the lives they want; “help often” by encouraging community action and lives of purpose; and, “wonder more” with talks, singing as one, readings and games to connect with each other and world. Most of all, have fun, be nice and join in.

Monthly meetings feature live pop music, TED-style talks, inspirational stories, socializing over coffee and cake and activities for children. SASV focuses on purpose and action. It supports local nonprofits through hands-on help and donations. The organization offers “smoups,” small activity groups that gather around member interests, including outdoor activities, book reading, crafts, self-improvement and beer tasting. On site parking is free.

The March speakers for Sunday Assembly are Tyler Pew and Kate Ganim, co-directors of KidMob, a design education organization using 21st Century education. The nonprofit conducts workshops with children to design and build products that solve local community needs.

Pew and Ganim will speak about “Superhero Cyborgs” a recent workshop that facilitated solutions by kids, with and without disabilities, for wearable devices as alternatives for upper limb prosthetics. KIDMob’s crew of designers, architects, contractors, engineers, fabricators, artists, doers, dreamers, creatives, rationalists and technologists inspire learning and results through immersive dynamics of moving, shaking, sketching, whirling, splatting, slicing, sawing and jitterbugging. It explores different technologies, from pencils to circuitry mills, as tools for creative expression.

The morning program includes a sing-along of songs to sing in the shower by American Authors, One Republic, the Steve Miller Band and Stevie Wonder. Childcare and activities are provided for children. Tea and cookies are available after the assembly and you’re welcome to join assemblers for lunch at the San Pedro Square Market, 82 No. San Pedro St., outside in good weather or inside at B2 Coffee.

Disabled parking is on-site and others may park for free on most neighborhood streets or at the SJSU garage at San Fernando and10th Streets for $5.
