“The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra” All-Star Big Band Concert | North Beach

Doc’s Lab (formerly The Purple Onion) hosts a free residency with the big band all-stars of The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra.

This event used to be free, but as of April 2015 it’s a $10 cover.

The Electric Squeezebox Orchestra was organized by Erik Jekabson and Jeanne Geiger in 2008 as a reading band for new big band music by local composers. These readings allow the composers to hear works in progress and to adjust and refine them accordingly prior to public performance.

The players are drawn from the San Francisco Bay Area’s top big bands including the Marcus Shelby Orchestra, Realistic Orchestra, the Mitch Marcus Quintet Plus 13, and the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra.

The Bay Area Composer’s Big Band plays a weekly free show on Sundays from 6:30-9pm at Doc’s Lab, a new venue in North Beach. Come hear original music from some of the best players and writers in the Bay Area.

This is the last show until 2015 and the final show before the band records its first CD in December.
