Event Details

The exhibition “Surfers´ Blood”, which will take place from the 11/16/15 – 12/17/15 at the ART-Lounge of the Goethe-Institut San Francisco, offers a multifaceted perspective on the world of surfing.

The focus is on the images of the award-winning photographer Patrick Trefz, who has written up 20 years of his career in his photography book “Surfers Blood” which was published in 2012. Trefz offers a unique insight in a culture which exists away from mainstream and has much more to offer than just breathtaking photos and thrilling locations. Furthermore, the exhibition displays a Xerox print made by Jim Denevan and surfboards designed by Thomas Meyerhoffer.

They would like to invite you to attend their opening reception and the onstage discussion with Danny Cortazzo who will discuss surfing in California with radio journalist Peter Erlenwein, which has much more to offer than just sun, fun and big business. Besides surfing as a sport, action is also taken to address broader social and ecological awareness, as well as the other challenges resulting from the relationship between mankind and the ocean. A subculture exists, which appears on the margins of mainstream, but never really is examined.
