Join us on Facebook for a conversation with Edgar Award nominee Susan Alice Bickford and local author Donald McPhail. Bickford will discuss her suspense thriller Dread of Winter and McPhail will showcase his latest travel adventure novel The Guest from Johannesburg. No registration required.

The Suspense Thriller: Susan Alice Bickford

Susan Alice Bickford is the author of A Short Time to Die and Dread of Winter. She is President of the Sisters in Crime Northern California Chapter and splits her time between Silicon Valley and her family’s home base in Vermont. Bickford writes thrillers and suspense stories that are deeply embedded in the rural areas of New York State and New England, featuring resourceful female protagonists. Bickford’s debut novel, A Short Time to Die, was nominated for the 2018 Left Coast Crime Best Debut Novel. Her second novel, Dread of Winter, was recently announced as a nominee for the Edgar Award.

The Travel Adventure: Donald McPhail

Donald McPhail is the author of The Millionaire’s Cruise and The Guest from Johannesburg. McPhail writes historical novels set in dynamic times, like the Roaring Twenties, World War II, and the seventies of Vietnam and civil rights protests. They are also travel adventures, with characters who are travel industry leaders located in exotic locations like Hawaii, Yokohama, Shanghai and Johannesburg. In the eighties, he was a successful freelance writer and consultant, with travel and political articles published in newspapers such as the San Francisco Examiner, Vancouver Sun and Johannesburg Star. He is now retired from the travel industry and is a full-time author and fundraising manager for nonprofit organizations.
