Event Details

The Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra (BCCO) invites you to a weekend of free concerts, featuring the rarely heard Russian classic by Sergei Taneyev, St John of Damascus, and the exquisite Saint-Saens Requiem.
Join us at Hertz Hall
Friday, May 30, at 7:30 pm
Saturday, May 31,  at 3:00 pm
Sunday, June 1, at 3:00 pm
Ming Luke, music director, says “St. John of Damascus was Taneyev’s first published work. It immediately placed him in the upper echelons of composers during his day. ” This is only the second time the Taneyev has been performed in northern California. The Saint-Saens Requiem has soloists and chorus echoing each other in soaring vocal lines with an effect both lucid and poignant.  BCCO promises you a transcendent spiritual experience through the music of these rarely heard works of power and polyphonic genius.
Four superb soloists join us for the Saint-Saens.
Ellen Leslie , soprano
Sara Couden , contralto
Simon Barrad, baritone
