This summer, seven San Francisco cultural destinations team up with Target for one big weekend of free family fun and learning July 16-18 called “Target Arts & Wonder” Free Museum Weekend. Each day, visitors of all ages can enjoy free admission to some of San Francisco’s leading museums with free hands-on art making activities and family-friendly performances at various locations.
Here at the Asian Art Museum, enjoy free general admission on Saturday, July 17, from 10 am to 5 pm.
Journey from India to Japan as you stroll through the galleries, take a storytelling tour, watch live performances, or make your own special art project to take home.
Asian Art Museum Schedule for July 17:
Performances & Workshops
12 noon: Korean Folk Dance and Music performance by Urisawe, Front steps of the museum
1:00 to 1:45 pm: Traditional Korean Dance and Music workshop by Urisawe, Samsung Hall
2:30 to 3:15 pm: Vietnamese Dance workshop by Danny Nguyen Dance Company, Samsung Hall
Storytelling for Families
10:30 am to 11:15 am
3:40 pm to 4:15 pm
Take a storytelling tour and learn about gods and goddesses, emperors and philosophers, and more.
Staff Picks Gallery Talks
1:30 pm: Southeast Asia (Gallery 11, third floor)
2:00 pm: China (Gallery 15, second floor)
2:30 pm: China (Gallery 18, second floor)
3:00 pm: Japan (Gallery 25, second floor)
Get behind the scene with Asian Art Museum staff! Staff members share their personal connections with favorite artworks from the museum’s collection and unique stories behind the artworks’ history.
Hands-on Art Making
South Court
Make a watercolor painting of the museum’s beloved Nandi the Bull, and color a fun book bag to take it home! Also, collect different AAM badge designs, or create your own to wear.
