Event Details

The Original Tenderloin/Mid-Market Walking Tour takes you on a journey of discovery, revealing the true nature of a much-maligned, often avoided and almost always overlooked neighborhood. The thirty-one blocks of the Tenderloin district are the beating heart of a city peopled by immigrants and iconoclasts, artists and activists, sinners and saints. Its history plays an integral part in the growth and development of the City, the Bay Area, California and the US. Our Tenderloin/Mid-Market Walking Tours have guided over 45,000 people through tours of the Tenderloin. The tours have brought people into the Tenderloin neighborhood to inform, entertain, and sometimes completely astound them with visions and stories of the people who have helped shape the neighborhood, and also those who live and work there today. This is an amazing part of San Francisco. The tour tells you all about it.

Del Seymour is known as the “Mayor of the Tenderloin” and is a longtime resident and advocate for the neighborhood in San Francisco known as the Tenderloin. His background and personal experiences make him a poignant and insightful guide to the area. Del Seymour’s Tenderloin Walking Tours give attendees a deep and unvarnished view into the history, challenges, and resilience of the Tenderloin community.

Some highlights and aspects of the tours which is just and insight:

Personal Stories: Del Seymour’s lived experiences give a personal touch to the tour. He doesn’t just narrate the history of the Tenderloin; he’s lived it.

Deep Dive into History: The Tenderloin has a rich and diverse history. It has been home to a multitude of cultures, movements, and stories that have shaped San Francisco’s identity.

Social Issues Awareness: The Tenderloin faces many challenges, including homelessness, drug addiction, and crime. Del highlights these issues, bringing attention to the need for social services, compassion, and understanding.

Civic Engagement: Beyond just a tour, Del Seymour has been involved in various initiatives to uplift the community. This includes founding Code Tenderloin, a nonprofit that seeks to provide job-readiness training for residents.

Local Perspective: Instead of a glorified or sugar-coated version of the Tenderloin, attendees get a genuine view, learning about the struggles and victories of the residents
