Mad Dog in the Fog | 530 Haight Street, San Francisco, CA

Event Details

San Francisco is getting a little hometown love from Train this week. The band that formed here back in 1993 is returning to its old stomping grounds Thursday, Aug. 27, for a free block party celebrating the release of its 12th studio album, Mad Dog in the Fog. Yes, Haight and Ashbury streets are actually being shut down for the occasion, because apparently a new album deserves a little traffic chaos.

The party takes place outside longtime Haight-Ashbury pub Mad Dog in the Fog, which also inspired the new album’s title. Train filmed the music video for one of the album’s singles at the bar, so the whole thing is essentially a very elaborate hometown visit. The band will perform at 5 pm, with doors opening at 3:30 pm.

The event is free, but you’ll need to RSVP through the official invite. Space is limited, and you must receive a confirmation to enter the block party. If confirmed, make sure your name on here matches your LEGAL name on your ID. There’s a catch, because of course there is: an RSVP does not guarantee entry and admission is first-come, first-served. So if you’re hoping to hear “Hey, Soul Sister” with a crowd packed onto Haight Street, showing up early is probably your best bet.

Train has plenty of San Francisco history to lean on. The band formed in the city in 1993 and went on to win a Grammy in 2011, along with scoring hits including “Hey, Soul Sister.” Now they’re celebrating their latest chapter in the neighborhood where the whole thing started. Not a bad excuse to spend a Thursday afternoon in the Haight.
