Event Details

Jose Ortega is throwing the school yard open to the community this year for its annual free Umoja (“unity” in Swahili) festival. In global fashion, the day will include live American jazz music, salsa dancing, limbo contests, and a tale of the Chinese diaspora to Guyana as told through food.

A real-life carnival tent of 20 games ($1 to play) for families will entice fair-goers to play to win prizes and Supervisor John Avalos will take part in the games and a dance contest. Also a silent auction with everything from Disneyland tickets to hotel stays to S.F. restaurant gift certificates.

Free admission; carnival games $1
