Nearly 200 couples will wed in a special Valentine’s Day marriage celebration at San Francisco’s historic City Hall on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

City Administrator Carmen Chu and the Office of the County Clerk invite couples to celebrate their love and tie the knot at a special Valentine’s Day marriage celebration at San Francisco City Hall.

On Valentine’s Day, the Office of the County Clerk will perform 200 marriage ceremonies, more than double the number of marriages typically performed in a single day.

2024 UPDATES:

Mayor London N. Breed will join City leaders and LGTBQ community to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the ‘Winter of Love,’ which marks the historic milestone when San Francisco began issuing same-sex marriage licenses in 2004.

Nearly 200 couples are registered with the San Francisco County Clerk’s Office to be married on the City’s annual Valentine’s Day celebration of love. As part of the City Hall celebration, the Mayor and various City officials plan to lead vow renewals and officiate marriage of same-sex couples throughout the day.

Want to watch the weddings?
According to a press release by the Office of the Mayor, the best time to check out the weddings is typically between 9am – 3:30pm in the North Light Court but please note that space might be very limited and all entrants into city hall are subject to security screenings.

Want to get married?
Typically you have to make an appointment to get married at city hall (we are told for 2023 there are no walk-ins allowed and all slots for 2023 are booked) and there is a $98 charge and you’re allowed six guest and ceremony appointments are available every half hour between 9am and 1pm Monday to Friday.

Last year (2023), each couple received a long-stem rose, candy, and a special Valentine’s Day Souvenir Marriage Certificate. Couples and their wedding parties enjoyed festive decorations and a free Valentine’s-themed photobooth in the North Light Court. (We’re not sure if it could be the same for this year – 2024)

This annual event highlights both the great diversity of couples who travel from across the globe to marry at City Hall and San Francisco’s Deputy Marriage Commissioner Program. Now in its 32nd year, the Office of the County Clerk’s Deputy Marriage Commissioner Program trains and deputizes volunteers to officiate marriage ceremonies. During this celebration, 22 Deputy Marriage Commissioners will be on-site to accommodate the high volume of marriages.
