When Grace Cathedral was completed in 1965, Bishop James Pike wanted to do something special to commemorate the occasion. The jazz composer Vince Guaraldi was enlisted to write special music for a ceremony that would fill the cathedral to the brim. It was the first time Jazz music had been performed for a religious ceremony.
