Event Details

As the host of this evening of the Classical at the Freight, Benjamin Simon is convinced he can un-stuffify and de-mystify the classical genre. The director of the SF Chamber Orchestra is going to do that by bringing out some of the Bay Area’s top professional violists for an hour of top-flight chamber music in an informal, friendly atmosphere. In doing so, they’ll even attempt to set a new Guinness world record for the largest viola ensemble ever.

And if you do end up liking what you hear, know this: a chamber orchestra is the smaller version of the symphonic orchestra and, it doesn’t matter what city you’re in, it’s always going to be a cheaper alternative.

Nerdy Note: Consider yourself warned and armed with knowledge: the viola is the “middle voice” in the violin family, between the cello and the violin. But you probably know that if you’re a violist, in which case you’re invited to bring your instrument, your axe and join in with the pros.
