San Francisco’s tradition of diverse cultural expression started at the Presidio, and continues today with events that enlighten, engage, and entertain, taking place at the Presidio Officers’ Club.
Enjoy topical discussions, live music, dance, and interactive family activities, all free to the public and sponsored by the Presidio Trust, in partnership with cultural institutions from across the Bay Area.
British actress Vivien Leigh is best known today for her iconic performance as Southern belle Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With the Wind. Yet her career spanned nearly thirty years, encompassing British and American stage and screen and garnering her many accolades, including two Academy Awards, a BAFTA, and a Tony.

In this talk biographer, historian, and curator Kendra Bean explores the formation and development of Leigh’s celebrity image, and what it meant for her to be a “star.” Kendra has aMA in Film Studies from King’s College London and is the author of Vivien Leigh: An Intimate Portrait (Running Press, 2013), which will be available for purchase and signing after the talk.
